Kate Butchart, Business Development Manager for SustainLane, is passionate about using the power of business and the internet to promote a more sustainable global society. Her work at SustainLane involves establishing and maintaining valuable relationships with organizations and business owners to further the green movement. She is particularly interested in the effective integration of business ethics into the corporate sector, as well as the development and impact of sustainable banking practices around the world. Before SustainLane, Kate worked at the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments in Marina, CA, where she routinely organized successful conferences focused on sustainability and contributed to the annual State of Our Region report. Her international experiences have carried her to the Ethics Institute of South Africa, where she developed the world’s first Code of Ethics for whistleblowing hotline service providers, and to Madrid, Spain, where she studied economics at La Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. While completing her MBA, Kate was the leader of the Monterey Institute of International Studies chapter of Net Impact, an organization of 10,000 graduate students and professionals who are dedicated to using business skills to create a positive economic, social, and environmental impact. In December 2005, her article “Whistle While You Work: Battling Corruption in South Africa” was published in the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics Journal. She speaks fluent Spanish and basic French and is firmly committed to using international collaboration and communication to solve complex global challenges. Kate holds a BA in International Affairs from The Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University in Washington, DC, as well as an MBA with a specialization in corporate social responsibility from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA. This New Jersey native has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2004.
